Therapy Montclair, NJ
I’m Kaitlin, a Therapist in Montclair, NJ who helps teens and adults move anxiety out of the driver’s seat and rebuild their confidence in themselves and satisfaction in their lives.
You are toughing it out through your days as you feel things “could be worse” and “you don’t have a right to complain”. You are functioning at a level acceptable to others at work and in some relationships but feeling terrible inside. Maybe you have felt this emotional pain for many many years. You’ve tried various means to help heal yourself but the results always seem minimal or temporary.
Your anxiety is high and your moods are low. Self-care and routine are becoming more difficult and you have a wish for more contentment within yourself and control in your life. Overthinking is getting the best of you and you’ve become painfully aware of how previous and current relationships/events may be impacting you emotionally. Still, you don’t know what to do about it.
Sometimes you think your anxiety, mood swings, and depression are normal, but recently things have been getting worse and there are undeniable signs that help and change may be needed. You want to find someone who can help you understand and address the TRUE root of the problem so that it can be resolved once and for all.
If this sounds like you or your child, read on to learn how I can help.
I help discontented people to better understand the underlying causes of their current emotional pain through various psychoanalytic and psychodynamic techniques. Some of these techniques include free association, dream interpretation and uncovering subconscious relational schemas. These techniques are what help you to begin to understand yourself and your current difficulties on a deeper level, finally grabbing hold of the root causes or conflicts. As the therapeutic relationship grows my clients find increased comfort in talking about and being curious about the nature of their inner lives.
I use humor, play, and stories in my work so that counseling doesn't have to feel hard but can feel like a relief.
Together we identify how you currently relate to others, yourself, and how you manage your current painful emotional states. Next, we develop a better understanding of how these patterns emerged and take steps to interrupt these unconscious and sometimes generationally reinforced patterns and beliefs. For those who wish for more intensive treatment and immediate relief, I offer services such as hypnotherapy and high-frequency psychoanalysis. We take a team approach to help you take steps to heal old wounds while altering your current relationship with yourself and others to begin experiencing true relief. With counseling, you can finally break problematic patterns of thinking and relating in your life, develop stronger emotional resilience, and improve your confidence and decision-making abilities.

The term counselor and therapist are often used interchangeabley so try to not get bogged down in this terminology. Do check that the therapist or counselor that you are looking into is licensed in your state and has a degree which ensures they have proper training to provide high quality therapy services. The website Psychology Today posted a great article entitled, “Is Therapy Worth the Investment?” by Gary Drevitch in which he states that, “Three quarters of people who've had therapy end up with better mental health than those who haven't. 76% of people say they'd recommend it to a friend. When therapy works, you stop worrying so much, start making better decisions, stand up for yourself, feel more at peace, and sleep better.”
This has certainly been my personal and professional experience as well. With great therapy outcomes comes great changes in physical, professional and relational success. Therapy is an investment in yourself that can pay huge dividends in the long run.
